Traverse City Graduation Tips

My daughter graduated from Traverse City West Senior High School on Sunday (congratulations Elena!) at Kresge Auditorium in Interlochen. Here are some tips for those who will attend in the future:

1. Get there early. We had a 4:00 PM graduation and left the house about 2:15. Many seats were already taken. We still got good ones for us, but our party of eight needed to split up. If you have a larger party - early, early, early.

2. Parking is messy. Because so many people will be coming to the graduation, parking fills up fast. If you know someone with a handicap tag, invite them to join you - you'll get a much better spot. But you'll still need to follow rule #1.

3. Street parking. I have heard that in the past, tickets were given for parking on the street. I had family that parked on the street, and it was fine. Take that for what it's worth.

4. There is no tailgating. We found this out at a parent meeting at TC West a few weeks before. I hadn't thought about it, but I suppose there are all kinds of people who do all kinds of things. There is a snack bar, though.

5. Find out from your senior where they are sitting. The packet we got had her seat number, and that helped to get the closest possible seat to be close to her.
