An Icy Walk on the Beach

I find that when the trails are icy messes, fit for neither man nor beast, a surprisingly good place to walk is the beach. The sand hardens in the cold but doesn't get slick like the trails in the forests. And I've got the place to myself, as I did on my walk at Good Harbor. There are downsides to almost everything, and the biggest downside of a beach walk is the wind. There is nothing to stop the wind from tearing across the water and right into me. It wasn't a long walk - 30 minutes of face-numbing cold was all I could take. In that short time, I did get some nice pictures.

North Manitou on the center right of the picture. Not a good day to attempt the swim.

The constant water action formed formations in the ice, like this blow hole.

Mini icebergs floated in the ice, rolling as the waves came in.
