'Tis blackberry season here in Traverse City. This is a nice time for me because it means I get free fruit, and I do like free. Not far from my house, in a secret location known only to the hundreds of other people that go there, is a place where the blackberries thrive. So off I went with my cardboard pint container to risk serious bodily injury inflicted by the thorns of capricious blackberry bushes.

I wasn't the only one looking to eat some of the sweet fruit. This butterfly was powering up for its flight south, a trip which gets closer by the day.

Though not interested in berries, the deer was not terribly afraid of me. I'm glad because I'm really a nice, non-intimidating kind of guy.

I'm enjoying the fields of gold while they last. The first turning of the leaves has been spotted, and it only goes downhill from here.
